How best can I locate a good low-budget small business software developer in my area ?

I need to customise a software program to suit my small business? Which website provides best leads for me?

Well, depending on where you live, I guess going after forums and posting a job with a small description in it would help. Places like

http://forums.devarticles.com

However, there are other options where you can hire low-budget developers. You can outsource your project to sites like rentacoder (http://www.rentacoder.com), scriptlance (http://www.scriptlance.com). However with options like these you have minimum control on what the programmer does.

Another option would be using Odesk (http://www.odesk.com) , which does provide monitering facilities to check up on your developer on what he is doing.

Traditionally, these two options might cost a lot less then when hiring local talents. This does however mean, you'll have to limit your communications to email, and Instant Messaging software like Yahoo! Messenger, MSN Messenger or GTalk.

Good luck with your search

    Hi matrixdee,

Your best bet is to check other small business in your area. Find out who they use and how satisfied they have been with them.
